“It’s Photo Shopped”

“It’s photo shopped.” My ever pessimistic student declared upon seeing my picture. The giraffes have been my computer backdrop, regularly shown on the projector screen, for two years now since I originally took the picture in Niger, on the trip God used to stir my heart for Africa. This particular day in class, my student and I were arguing about the validity of my photograph. Today, he and I argued about whether or not I’m his favorite teacher. I think he’s in denial. He thinks I am. But that’s beside the point.

Two years ago- almost to the day- I returned from Africa. One year ago, almost to the day, I learned about Rift Valley Academy, and today I told my students that I am moving to Kenya.

It is officially public knowledge! WHEW! The last few months have been difficult as people have approached me at church, “I hear you’re going to be a missionary!”
*Internal ninja dive under the pews-that-are-actually-chairs to avoid being seen or heard by any nearby students.*
“Yes! God has been moving in some pretty crazy ways and I am so excited to see what he has in store for me as I follow him to Kenya!”

While it was hard to tell my students I will be leaving them, there was also an excitement seeing many of their eyes light up in wonder at the idea of serving Jesus as a missionary. I love that some students from last year came to my classroom after school to ask about how God called me into this. I love that even already, my story can be a testament to His greatness, and can hopefully encourage my current students to step out in faith as they follow Jesus with not just their hearts, but their souls, and their lives to the very core of their being.

I look forward also to my new students who will actually believe I could be standing in the midst of a herd of wild giraffes, in awe once again of the magnificent power of our almighty God.

Prayer Points

An added class to teach at school and support raising ramping up to full swing means a full schedule! Please pray the Lord gives me energy, diligence, dedication, and enthusiasm to accomplish all that He has set before me.

Pray for wisdom and safety as I navigate wanting to meet with people to share about my ministry and journey, yet wanting to respect others, and their health & safety in the midst of COVID.

Praise Note

My school restarted this week in person! I am so thankful to be able to be with my students as I am better able to teach them, and love them when they are sitting in front of me- even through masks! Screens just plain make things hard!
